Coatings for the Oil & Gas Industry

Electro-Coatings is committed to providing a solution that fits your needs.

In our world today, the oil and gas (petrochemical) industry accounts for one-third of the world’s energy supply. Oil and gas must be extracted from beneath the surface by various types of equipment such as pumps, separators, shakers and, of course, drills. However, the combination of harsh and damaging environments and the constant pounding caused by drilling and other processes greatly decreases the lifespan of extraction equipment.

Electroless nickel plating, via an autocatalytic chemical reaction, applies a protective metal coating to the metal parts of extraction equipment. It does not require any electric current. Oil and gas electroless plating provides several important benefits including:

  • Wear resistance: A protective metal coating provides a barrier than can increase the wear resistance of the coated parts and decreases the damaging effects caused by drilling and other extracting processes.
  • Heat resistance: Several oil and gas industry processes involve or produce incredible amounts of heat. Electroless nickel coating can decrease wear and damage caused by intense heat and prolong product life.
  • Corrosion resistance: Nickel and other metals will serve as a sacrificial coating that resists rust, which is extremely important for offshore oil and gas operations.
