ELECTROLESS NICKEL, NYE-KOTE ™

In the Electroless Nickel, NYE-KOTE ™ process, uniform composition of deposit and constant nickel plating rate are maintained by rigid control both of the pH and the concentration of all chemicals in the stabilized plating bath. Since the NYE-KOTE ™ plating process is strictly chemical, it coats all prepared surfaces wetted by the solution with a deposit that’s highly uniform in regard to thickness, as well as in electroless nickel chemical and physical properties.

With NYE-KOTE ™ you can enhance the properties by adding submicron particles. Examples include our PTFE Electroless Nickel Composite CoatingNYE-TEF ™. By adding polytetrafluoroethylene ”Teflon“ to the electroless nickel you can increase the low friction/self-lubrication surface. Another example is our NYE-CARB ™ Silicon Carbide Composite Electroless Nickel Coating. By adding submicron particles of silicon carbide to the matrix we can improve the abrasion and wear resistance many times over conventional electroless nickel.

The plating solution contains a nickel salt and hypophosphite as the reducing agent; which makes NYE-KOTE ™ Electroless Nickel have an excellent corrosion resistance. Other chemicals are added to the solution to control the pH and to act as complexing and stabilizing agents. Hydrogen gas and ions are by-products of the NYE-KOTE ™ Electroless Nickel plating process. With a post bake the hydrogen gas and ions can be removed from the NYE-KOTE ™ Electroless Nickel. The reactions will occur in the presence of a catalyst. The properly prepared base metal surface acts as the initial catalyst. Since the nickel deposit is also a catalyst, the reaction continues autocatalytically. Any desired thickness of plating can be obtained as long as the reacting NYE-KOTE ™ chemicals are replenished.
