Since its first use on railroad tank cars in the 1950s, Kanigen® electroless nickel plating has been an industry standard for protection of metal components. Its hard finish and exceptionally consistent application thickness make it a trusted choice for friction reduction in iron, steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, bronze, nickel, aluminum, and their alloys.
Kanigen's hardness and phosphorous composition combine to offer excellent lubricity. The nickel phosphorous deposite is naturally low in friction, an effect that is enhanced by an overall hardness level for Kanigen of 49 Rockwell C. Heat treating can approach a Rockwell C hardness of 70, making it a cost-effective replacement for hard chrome plating.
The friction protection of electroless nickel plating is enhanced by the high consistency and extraordinarily persistent adhesion of the coating. Kanigen electroless nickel plating is known for equal deposition to all surfaces of a coated component, including complex geometries and inside diameters. Kanigen's high ductility and unusually persistent adhesion virtually eliminates flaking. Electroless Nickel Plating resists separation of coating from the substrate under pressures up to 30 tons. The result is a coating that stays in place in extreme conditions, delivering consistent reliability in friction control.
