What is Nye-Kote™
Nye-Kote™ is a technologically advanced coating and an Electro-Coatings exclusive. Its electroless nickel composition protects components with a highly uniform finish that maximizes hardness and minimizes friction.
The chemical coating process used to apply Nye-Kote™ yields consistent coverage over a component's entire geometry. Because the coating is transferred to the substrate by chemical reaction rather than an electrical charge (as in electroplating) or spraying/dipping (as in painting), uniform thickness is maintained along edges and in complex interior geometries. Controlling the chemical reaction in the Nye-Kote™ bath allows us to deliver highly accurate coating thicknesses (to +/- 10%), in response to customer need for adherence to tight tolerances.
The performance benefits of Nye-Kote™ go beyond consistency to include:
- Friction control: The phosphorus content of Nye-Kote™ provides a natural lubricity that minimizes heat buildup, reducing scoring and galling. The smoothness and highly consistent thickness of Nye-Kote™ helps distribute friction's effects evenly across a wear surface.
- Corrosion resistance: Nye-Kote™'s phosphorus content creates a high level of protection against corrosion. The extremely high consistency of this coating also eliminates the microscopic fissures that commonly occur in electroplating. Chemical content of the coating may be adjusted to deliver the level of corrosion resistance desired by an end user
- Performance options: In addition to Nye-Kote™, Electro-Coatings offers Nye-Tef for even greater friction reduction, Nye-Carb for world class wear resistance, and a full complement of other plating and coating options
